I have stumbled across this 2012 short created by Mack Carruthers. At only 1 minute and 41 seconds, we get to know an exuberant snowman and his fondness for carrots. Mack Carruthers spent every free minute putting together this passion project, which started in 2008 at an Ottawa International Animation Festival workshop. What started as a doodle suddenly became an award winning short. The short won the Toronto Animated Image Society Showcase in 2012 and was official selected for the Toronto Animation Arts Festival, The Laugh Track Comedy Festival and the Philadelphia Film & Animation Festival in 2012 and the Halifax Independent Film Festival in 2013. Finally, In a 2012 interview with Show me the Animation Mack Carruthers gave some very notable piece of advice, “learning the difference between criticisms that add to your film rather than take away was the key to feedback use. In the end, creative choices you make might not resonate with the entire audience because art if so subjective and that’s ok!” Keep that in might as you watch this piece.
