With the Oscar nominations delivering another blow to our diverse communities, let’s shine a light on the well-deserved pick, Hair Love.
This short film created by independent film director Matthew A. Cherry tells the story of an African American father learning to do his daughter’s hair for the first time. It’s a heartwarming and potentially tearjerking watch.
Sony Pictures Animation picked up the film, and produced a book adaptation as well. It’s clear that the story has touched so many people. Hair Love shines a much-needed light on the lives of families that we don’t see in the spotlight often enough.
