Reality TV. Love it or hate it, it’s one of the most lucrative areas of the entertainment industry and it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
But if Tony Babcock has anything to do with it, reality TV might just take a more respectful and authentic turn. Babcock is the creator and star of the reality series Extreme Actor which shows the actor and prolific acting coach doing a series of auditions for roles in professional film projects. In each episode, his agent calls him to give him his recent audition information which he then prepares for by meeting the real people for whom he is playing characters, and quite literally walking a mile in their shoes.
The series is a fresh take on reality TV and a testament to the fact that reality TV doesn’t have to be harmful to people in order to be entertaining. The series is respectful, honest, and heartwarming without the need to slander, mistreat or belittle anyone. Babcock is a bonafide comedy genius and he was born to headline this type of reality concept.
The series was produced by Babcock’s own production company, IYA Studios, for which he is known as one of Toronto’s top acting coaches and instructors. Babcock’s experience as an acting expert transcends format and his expertise is evident in the series and beyond in the work he does for the film industry at large. Some of Babcock’s top alumni include Shamier Anderson (Amazon Prime’s Goliath and SyFy’s Wynonna Earp), Eddson Marales (Netflix’s Black Summer) and Trish Rainone (Paranormal Survivor).
One of Babcock’s prolific students, Lee Lawson, boasted that “Tony’s attention to detail is unparalleled. Studying with him is a safe and highly personalized experience that enables you to build on your strengths while addressing your weaknesses.”
Overall, the series is a pleasure to watch. The pacing is expert, the special guests are charismatic and Babcock drives the piece every step of the way so there is never a dull moment. Wether you are an actor keen on learning a thing or two, or you just want a behind the scenes look at the film industry, Extreme Actor is definitely worth the watch!
